Wed 1 Jan – Sun 5 Jan 2025
Southbank Centre, London
Experience poetry like never before at Astra Papachristodoulou’s debut solo exhibition, Making Poetry, hosted at the Southbank Centre from 1 to 5 January 2025. This unique exhibition goes beyond the traditional page, where poetry evolves into sculptures, textiles, and other tangible forms, offering visitors an immersive, multisensory journey into the art of words.
Through innovative use of materials and forms, Papachristodoulou transforms the written word into a rich, dynamic visual and tactile experience. The exhibition invites audiences to explore the boundaries of poetry, providing fresh perspectives on language and its ability to evoke emotion and meaning through physical presence.
Southbank Centre is proud to present Making Poetry, an immersive solo exhibition by Astra Papachristodoulou, running from 1 to 5 January 2025. In this ground-breaking display, Papachristodoulou pushes the boundaries of poetry by turning it into interactive objects, sculptures, textiles, and more, offering visitors a chance to experience poetry in new, participatory ways.
The exhibition showcases a range of materials and innovative techniques, including beeswax letter transfers, protest banner poetry, bio-resin sculptures, and poetry games, all crafted to create a bridge between the visual and the verbal. These works invite the audience to engage with the poetry, encouraging them to reflect on its social, emotional, and political power in everyday life.
As part of the You Belong Here project, Making Poetry also features new commissions that celebrate figures from Greek culture, including the philosophical Simias of Rhodes and the poet Dimitra of Lesbos. Through these works, Papachristodoulou explores themes of feminine multiplicity, activism, and the creative act as play, highlighting the intersection of poetry, culture, and identity.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience poetry in its most dynamic form, as Making Poetry creates a space for exploration, engagement, and shared creative expression.
